Lumsden’s first project for MoMA Retail, the Design Store is across West 53rd Street from The Museum of Modern Art in NYC. Its compelling retail design showcases MoMA’s range of the very best of contemporary and modern design.
Working closely with MoMA, Lumsden opened up the window bays to allow the outside to see in. The increased natural light highlights several custom design elements amid better circulation and curated product.
A wall of Vitra shelving with integrated lighting provides the stylish flexibility to vibrantly group products in ever differing ways. A feature wall of panelled maple creates a canvas for the display of key seasonal products. And a bespoke jewellery counter allows the collection to sparkle.
Freed up space for the tech area enables MoMA’s visual merchandising team to take a more theatrical approach, focusing on hero products.

“Highlighting good design has always been a fundamental part of MoMA’s DNA. Because every object sold in the store has been approved by Museum curators, the renovated MoMA Design Store will be integral to our mission of making good design accessible to everyone.”
MoMA Retail General Manager Thomas Randon
